Connecting Virtually: Making Fun During COVID19 Normal

Something we have heard repeated over and over again is that it feels challenging for many people to find joy, fun or moments that are not dominated by the news of COVID19. In our community conversations, it has seemed like some of us almost need permission to feel emotions that are outside of fear, anxiety, overwhelmed, sadness.

As a community, we discussed how even in challenging times, what keeps us going is hope, humor and creating moments where we are able to enjoy the people, things or resources available to us. While this is much easier to do in certain circumstances (socio-economic status, job description, etc), it is a fundamental need as a human to need enjoyment, stimulation and relaxation.

Our community conversation on Thursday, April 16th focused on this- what tools do we have to still find enjoyment and play when we are not able to see or be near many of our friends and loved ones?

The questions we asked in circle were these:

  • When do you have the most fun?

  • What is something you are doing to have fun during this season?

  • What is something you are looking forward to doing when this is over?

With the community we came up with a list of resources that you can use to connect virtually. If you’ve got other suggestions for us, let us know! We’d love to add to this list.
