Community Reflections on the Effects of Quarantine on Justice Involved People, Family and Friends
Our conversation this morning was intense- we talked about a range of feelings, thoughts, fears and unknowns around what is happening with people who are currently in correctional facilities. We had a lot of resources shared and many personal reflections around how the quarantine is affecting our communities, families, friends and loved ones.
We started off by doing a poll- asking those who were present if they knew someone in prison.
59% of us did.
As we moved forward, we shared some statistics from prisons who are experiencing COVID19 in a completely different way than others. Take a look at the presentation below to get some insight into the latest stats.
Our questions for the session then turned dove into the reflections of community members.
1. What is the effect of quarantine from Covid19 on you and your loved ones in prison.
2. Share a challenge about the Covid19 quarantine situation for you or your loved one in the justice system (prison, probation or parole)?
Even those who did not know someone in the prison system were able to reflect on the challenges and issues facing those who were, and provided support for those who are struggling with the intense separation and limitations.
How has quarantine affected you and your community, especially those who are incarcerated or have family who are? How are you supporting them?
We’d love to hear thoughts, tips and ideas! Leave us a comment with your thoughts on this topic.
