Community and Sharing Resources
During our community conversation this morning, we had a great discussion around some of the challenges going on in our communities surrounding sharing resources. Hoarding has been a problem all across the country, with many people not able to purchase or access materials they need during this time.
So what can we do about this? We watched a video that started off our conversation.
What does this video bring up for you? What is your automatic response?
What is sharing collaboratively to you? How can we share collaboratively during this time?
Some of the answers from our community included this:
There’s resources being talked about and sometimes it’s overwhelming and a bit annoying because some are so specific and if you don’t fit that exact description, you don’t qualify. This video reminded me that not everyone even has access to all this information and that I need to be doing more to have patience and get information to those who it might not be going to.
Sharing collaboratively looks like forming a way to connect with your neighbors to make sure we all have enough. It’s not just about money- but if I have some of this and you need it, it’s my responsibility to help meet your need!
Seeing how resources have been diverted to meet the needs in the face of this crisis has been really neat.
Refer people to these virtual conversations- so that we can connect
Help distribute resources to homes so that transportation, gas, expenses don’t prohibit others from accessing resources
Support schools in accessible Wifi and devices
The second set of questions we had focused on sharing our own talents, gifts and skills. Here’s the video we watched:
How can you share individually with others? What is unique about you that you can offer, even if it only to a few different people?
Playing music on a porch, singing on Facebook Live
Setting up technology for family members
Using Zoom to have family group calls and having circles
Mental health check with people who are single or alone during this time
Put XL Teddy Bear around house and yard for children in neighborhood
